The Problem
Multiple slates had slipped down the front pitch into the gutter, held only by rusting iron nails that had suffered 'nail sickness'. The traditional mortar beneath the ridge tiles had turned to powdery dust, creating multiple entry points for driving rain.
Our Technical Assessment
Because the overall slate stock was in 80% sound condition, a full re-roof was unnecessary. Slipped slates could be secured using discreet stainless steel hooks and matched reclaimed Welsh slates, paired with a complete ridge refurbishment.
The Solution & Workmanship
Our team stripped off the old mortar-bedded ridge tiles. We secured all loose slates across both pitches, replacing broken units with authentic reclaimed Bangor Welsh slates. We then installed a modern mechanically-fixed dry ridge roll system with ventilated gaskets and clamped ridge unions, securing every tile with heavy-gauge stainless steel screws.
The Result & Guarantee
Cost-effective restoration that saved the customer thousands compared to an unneeded full replacement. The new dry-ridge line provides guaranteed mechanical anchorage and subtle continuous ventilation to the attic space.
